Join us this Monday, May 13th, as we release our newest seasonal, Heidi, a Maibock (traditional German May beer). Heidi will be our highest alcohol beer yet, around 7.1% ABV, and the perfect way for us to transition from the winter lows to the summer heat. Come introduce yourself to her this Monday!
Next month, we will be hosting our first night of live music! Saturday, May 25th, at 10pm in the Beer Hall and Beer Garden, Parranderos Latin Combo takes the stage. Before the show, there will be a latin dance lesson, and following the show DJ Apolo will be playing until close. $10 in advance, $15 at the door. On March 16th, Exile Brewing Co. will open our doors early for the downtown Des Moines St. Patrick’s Day Parade. The Beer Hall bar will open at 6 am for early beers, as well as breakfast burritos (it’s important to establish a base). At 9 am, the Annex and full lunch/breakfast menu will be open and continue throughout the day. To help celebrate the day, we will be releasing a St. Patrick’s Day seasonal beer, an oatmeal stout, named Brigit! The downtown Des Moines St. Patrick’s Day Parade starts just a few feet from us on 15th street, so arrive early to get a good spot and start your St. Patrick’s Day festivities off right!
Exile Brewing Co. is excited to be included in this year’s SOLD OUT Blue Ribbon Bacon Festival! Alongside Tursi’s Latin King, we will be serving beer and bacon inspired foods for the world’s pork lovers on Saturday, Feb. 9th, at the Iowa State Fairgrounds. Keep your eyes peeled for our banner, and your mouth ready for Betty and Mamie (with bacon in them!).
We have managed to get our hands on four tickets to this years sold out Bacon Fest, and to celebrate the occasion, on Tuesday, Feb. 5th, we will be holding a raffle to win these tickets. To enter, simply come to the brewery on Tuesday from 6pm-10pm and each beer purchased from 6 PM-10 PM gets one entry to a drawing for 4 Blue Ribbon Bacon Festival tickets. It’s been a long time in the making, but the day has been set. January 19th will be the official release of our newest seasonal offering, a Schwarzbier! She has spent nearly 2 months in the lager room cleaning up, exploring her steel home and meeting the other girls. Now she has finally spoken and is ready to meet all of you. John and R.J. will begin the transfer and kegging next week, as well as a final test with Bob. The anticipation is building throughout the brewery as we prepare for her Jan. 19th release. Be sure to introduce yourself to her on her opening day!
It’s been a while since we’ve shared an update with you about what’s going on at Exile Brewing Co., but fear not, there is plenty of news to share!
First things first… the beer! Over the past few weeks, Ruthie, Betty, and Hannah have started to make appearances at bars and restaurants throughout Des Moines. They’ve popped up at a few local favorites, like El Bait Shop, and we’ve just begun to introduce the girls to Ames. To find out where we’re currently on tap, check the lower half of our “About” page. If you don’t see your favorite bar or restaurant, make sure to ask next time you’re in, you never know where the girls might show up!
Back at the Fitch Soap Building, we’ve completed a few small projects and are excited to announce the opening of our private party room! Equipped with a full bar, the space is perfect for holiday parties and all private gatherings. Finally, be sure to stop by the The Fitch Studio Building Open House tonight. Located just across the street from us, and bearing the same historic Fitch name, The Fitch Studio Building has served as home for many Des Moines artists, from painters to glass blowers and everything in between. The open house starts at 5pm and lasts until 9pm. Come celebrate our community and history together!

Exile girls for Halloween

What: We have introduced Betty, Ruthie, and Hannah to Des Moines over the past months. But next weekend, on October 26 and 27, is when the Exile Girls truly come alive. To celebrate Halloween and the release of our four flagship beers, we will be holding auditions for the real Hannah, Betty, and Ruthie. To enter, simply come to Exile Brewing Co. dressed as the girl of your choice on Oct. 26 and Oct. 27 at 10pm. The girl that embodies each Hannah, Betty, and Ruthie the best will be chosen and featured as part of our “Exile Girls” in promotions and at future events. There is no entry fee or door cover, but partygoers must be 21+ years old to participate. Are you the first Exile Girl? Find out next weekend! 
On October 11th “The Gateway Colossus”, an exact copper and steel replica of the crown of the Statue of Liberty, will come to its final resting place atop Exile Brewing Co. in the Western Gateway Park. Come see the incredible new addition to downtown Des Moines while celebrating two of the greatest things known to man: Beer and Freedom!

Ruthie is back! Once a legend throughout bars and taverns across Des Moines (and the U.S.), Ruthie was almost forgotten with the birth of Des Moines’ new late night crowd. What started as “good old days” bar talk between a few regulars at Tursi’s Latin King quickly grew into something much more. Old photographs, rumors, and stories began finding their way to us as ideas started pouring out.
Now her return to Des Moines has finally came to fruition. Brewmaster John and R.J. have spent the better part of the past 2 months perfecting Exile Brewing Co.’s flagship beer, while proving all along that legends are timeless. Meet Ruthie!
